Sox keep on Soxing in loss to Cleveland

At least Josh Osich had a good game.

Welp, the result was written in the tea leaves before the game, and it turned out those tea leaves spelled out an 11-3 Chicago White Sox loss tonight.

The first inning was a rollercoaster. The Sox had three runners reach base, including two on walks! But they somehow didn't have a runner advance past second, and went scoreless. A good team, like Cleveland, takes advantage of runners on base, and they did. They had three runners reach in the first, and Franmil Reyes cleared the bases to put them up quick, 3-0.

Eventually, if you get enough runners on base, a team will score. In the third inning, Leury García doubled to lead off the inning, and Tim Anderson got him over to third. Mr. RBI, José Abreu, grounded out to third and drove in García, but the inning soon turned sour. After a Yoán Moncada double, Eloy Jiménez singled just over the second baseman's outstretched arm. Moncada proceeded to be thrown out at home.

That lost run was the start of a back-and-forth for the next two innings, as well as the end of Detwiler's start. He only lasted 2 2/3 innings, and he walked six. Carson Fulmer was the next man up, his first MLB game since August 2. By the end, Cleveland scored three runs, re-establishing their three-run lead. Fulmer allowed the last two of those runs before being pulled after two innings.

Yolmer Sánchez added an RBI on a double

and Moncada added the third run with a sacrifice fly.

It would only get worse for the Sox after that final RBI. Chicago pitchers kept on walking the opposition, with Jace Fry and Manny Bañuelos both added two. In Bañuelos' case, it was even worse. He only got three outs while allowing four runs, and then left the game with an injury. The lone pitcher for the Sox to have a good outing was Josh Osich. He had a perfect eighth inning — in garbage time, down by eight.

The offense wasn't all bad, with 10 hits, including four doubles. The White Sox somehow managed to walk eight times. But they left 12 men on base and were 3-for-12 with runners in scoring position. It was not a good showing for situational hitting, nor was it an overly great day on the base paths. I guess the Ricky Renteria ejection didn't inspire the team to victory.
