Joey Gallo has always been honest and candid about his disastrous tenure with the New York Yankees.

Gallo, who is now with the Minnesota Twins, is still taking his struggles with the Yankees to heart.

Per The New York Post:

“I look back, and I’m sad about it,” Gallo said recently of his time in New York … “I really grew up a Yankee fan, and all I wanted to do was play for the Yankees.”

(…)

“I’ll probably never have a chance to play for the Yankees again,” Gallo said. “That was my opportunity, and now I’m known as the guy who [f–king] sucked for the Yankees. That part is tough, and I have to live with that for the rest of my career and the rest of my life, really.”

In 140 games with the Yankees, Gallo slashed an abysmal .159/.291/.368 with a .660 OPS, 25 home runs and 46 RBIs in parts of two seasons (2021-2022).

The Yankees finally traded Gallo at the 2022 trade deadline to the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for promising pitching prospect Clayton Beeter.

While Beeter pitched in the Futures Game and is nearing a call-up to the major leagues, the Yankees gave up outfielder Ezequiel Duran to the Texas Rangers in the original deal for Gallo. Duran, who is an outfielder, hit .308 with 12 home runs in the first half of the regular season.
