Friday October 17th, 2014

Former MMA fighter War Machine attempted to kill himself in a Clark County (Nev.) jail cell Tuesday, according Fox Sports citing a report from TMZ.

The 32-year-old fighter, whose birth name is Jonathan Koppenhaver, attempted to hang himself and was stopped from doing so by a passing corrections officer, according to the report. He was arrested on Aug. 15 by U.S. Marshals after he was accused of beating his ex-girlfriend, Christy Mack.

Fox Sports wrote:

"Law enforcement sources told TMZ that an officer passing by War Machine's cell at Clark County jail called out to him Tuesday night and he was unresponsive. The fighter was sitting on the ground with his feet up on the bunk bed, (TMZ) says."

Koppenhaver was found with a piece of linen cloth tied around his neck and his face was purple, according to TMZ. The officer then reportedly cut the cloth, allowing Koppenhaver to breathe. Officers later found a suicide note in his cell, the report said.

Koppenhaver is now in an isolation unit on suicide watch.

He is in prison after being charged with 32 separate criminal counts, including assault as well as the attempted murder of Mack.
