McGregor vs. Alvarez headlines historic lineup set for UFC's New York City debut
The UFC 205 card promises to be the deepest in the history of the sport and promotion. Three title fights featuring four current champions headline the event, and four other former champions are fighting on the card.
Featherweight champion Conor McGregor looks to make history by becoming the first simultaneous two-weight champion in the promotion's history when he faces champion Eddie Alvarez, whose lightweight belt is on the line. In the co-main event, newly crowned Tyron Woodley fights Stephen Thompson in his first title defense since dethroning Robbie Lawler at UFC 201. Strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk puts her belt on the line against fellow Polish fighter Karolina Kowalkiewicz.
The pay-per-view portion of the card has six fights in all. Former middleweight champion Chris Weidman fights Yoel Romero in hopes that a win gives him the next shot at the 185-pound champion, Michael Bisping. Donald Cerrone's march through the welterweight division since debuting at 170 pounds in February continues against top-contender Kelvin Gastelum. A win inches Cerrone closer to a title shot in a second division. Former bantamweight champion Miesha Tate fights Raquel Pennington and is looking for a win since dropping the belt to Amanda Nunes in the main event of UFC 200.
