After missing the playoffs for the fourth consecutive season, the Giants decided to fire Tom Coughlin but retain Jerry Reese. Given one more chance, Reese hired Coughlin’s offensive coordinator, Ben McAdoo, to be the coach and spent nearly $200 million remaking the defense: on Olivier Vernon, Damon Harrison, and Janoris Jenkins. If those free agents pan out and Eli Manning continues to improve under McAdoo’s watch, the Giants could return to prominence. If not, the Giants will descend into salary cap hell and Reese will probably be out of a job.
