It sounds bad. Really bad. Not even Joe Torre could deny that. In the moment Philadelphia's Jimmy Rollins crushed Jonathan Broxton's 1-1 fastball for a two-run, winning double Monday night in Game 4 of the National League Championship Series, the Dodgers' Manny Ramirez was already in the showers, blissfully unaware of the punch to the gut his teammates on the field were enduring. "I was taking a shower," Ramirez said with a nonchalant shrug. "I came out and saw it on television. Then everybody started coming in and they turned the television off." few minutes later, Torre quickly began the damage control. He seemed disappointed, but not surprised. Showering early, heck leaving early, is rather common for Ramirez, and Torre has come to understand him better than almost anyone. "I think the way it turned out, it probably doesn't look good," Torre said. "But he certainly didn't have any lack of respect because of that." (Los Angeles Daily News)Comment
Patrick Ewing stands a better chance of suiting up for the Knicks next week in Miami than Eddy Curry. Curry, the team's out-of-shape center who was banished from practicing with his teammates two weeks ago, must meet a certain weight before he will be allowed to rejoin the Knicks. According to a source close to the team, Garden Chairman James Dolan was involved in the decision to keep Curry away from the Knicks until he improved his conditioning. (New York Daily News)Comment
Tressel sending Pryor a message?
Ohio State coach Jim Tressel said he has one time in his coaching career momentarily benched a starting quarterback who didn't understand how crucial turnovers were, and that quarterback got the message and got his job back the next game. Interesting. But . . . "I don't think that's what Terrelle [Pryor] needs," said Tressel, who doesn't see any similarities to last year's situation, when Todd Boeckman was benched for good in favor of Pryor after making some critical turnovers.
