Gruden to coach in 2010?

Though there's no specific evidence (yet) that former Raiders and Bucs coach Jon Gruden will be leaving the Monday Night Football booth and returning to the sidelines, there's a growing sense among league and industry insiders that Gruden will be returning to work as a head coach in 2010. Already, rumors are linking him (again) to the Notre Dame job. The fact that Gruden and Irish coach Charlie Weis are both represented by Bob LaMonte could make the swap a little delicate, to say the least. Besides, few believe that Gruden has the desire (or the patience) to work with college-level quarterbacks. (profootballtalk.com)Comment

Wade: Teaming with LeBron long shot

The thought is tantalizing: The Heat's Dwyane Wade and Cleveland's LeBron James playing alongside each other as teammates. Wade said Wednesday "it really could" happen, though he cautioned the odds are against it even though both can be unrestricted free agents next summer. (Miami Herald)Comment

USGA shortening Pebble Beach

The 2010 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach will max out at 7,040 yards, but the USGA could decide to play it even shorter if the wind kicks up. Either way, that's the shortest U.S. Open setup since 2004 at Shinnecock Hills. The British Open hasn't been that short since Muirfield in 2002. The Masters hasn't been that short since 2000. And the PGA Championship hasn't been that short since 1998 at Sahalee. If it seems like Pebble Beach is going back in time, that's because it actually did. After the 2000 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach, senior vice president of golf RJ Harper went through photos of the course from the early 1900s with co-owner Arnold Palmer and his design team. n the process, six trees have been added or moved, 11 tees and 16 bunkers have been adjusted or built, and the course has been lengthened by 192 yards.
