Marlins downplay Lowell rumors
Marlins president David Samson said on his weekly radio show that he expected Dan Uggla to be the team's Opening Day second baseman. That marked the first public admission by a club executive that Uggla would likely remain with the Marlins after months of speculation that he would be traded. "He is a Marlin and will be a Marlin this season," Samson said Wedneday on 790 The Ticket. Samson also said there are no plans to trade third baseman Jorge Cantu and discounted rumors that Boston Red Sox third baseman Mike Lowell might be traded back to the Marlins (Miami Herald)Comment
Pistons owner Karen Davidson confirmed Wednesday she's pursuing steps to sell the team. In a one-sentence statement issued through a public relations agency, Davidson said: "I'm pleased, as noted by Oscar Feldman, that the limited partners concur in my decision into inquiring about selling the team." Raiders deny talking to head coach candidates
Raiders managing general partner Al Davis has received numerous calls from coaches, in and out of the NFL, seeking employment the past two-plus weeks. However, he has yet to interview anyone for the head coaching position, a team official said Wednesday. That includes Baltimore Ravens quarterbacks coach Hue Jackson. Nonetheless, a person close to Davis said Jackson arrived at team headquarters in Alameda on Wednesday afternoon and spent several hours interviewing for a position other than head coach, the job still held by Tom Cable.
