Warner keeping Cardinals in dark?
Kurt Warner, 38, is expected to retire after 12 seasons, including the past five with the Cardinals. A friend who talked with Warner after the Cardinals lost to the New Orleans Saints in the playoffs said "it sounded like he was done." As of Wednesday afternoon, Warner had not informed the Cardinals of his decision, and the team has not announced the timing of a news conference. But Warner's agent, Mark Bartelstein, said "there will probably be a press conference on Friday." (Arizona Republic)Comment
Wizards may void or trade Arenas
The locker room guns saga isn't anywhere close to being over for the Washington Wizards, even with the news that Gilbert Arenas and Javaris Crittenton are suspended for the rest of the season. Team president Ernie Grunfeld isn't ruling out the possibility of voiding the remainder of Arenas' $111 million contract. The season is a mess, and Arenas' situation will have a significant effect on the team's plans at the trade deadline. (Associated Press)Comment
Damon called Yanks to strike deal
In the middle of last week, Johnny Damon called Yankees officials in New York, The Post has learned. Hal Steinbrenner was on his honeymoon. However, a top Yankees executive told Damon that if he accepted a $6 million deal with $3 million deferred that Steinbrenner could, perhaps, be convinced to approve that; though many Yankees officials remain sure that the young Boss would never budge off of $2 million. But like all previous concepts, Damon considered this latest idea unacceptable after he had a strong 2009 in which he made $13 million. (New York Post)Comment
