There will be a new owner of the Washington Wizards soon, and his first decision will revolve around Gilbert Arenas. Just what will the Wizards' apparent owner-in-waiting do with Gilbert Arenas, whom prosecutors want to see jailed for at least three months for his gunplay incident with Javaris Crittenton and subsequent cover-up in December? Trade him? Try to void his contract and begin an exhaustive house-cleaning? Or build around the three-time all-star, who was once responsible for pro hoops' resurgent relevance in Washington and is now to blame for its virtual disappearance? (The Washington Post)Comment
Coaching search hurtuing St. John's reputation
St. John's search is now reaching the stage where it is tarnishing the cshool's reputation. It is rapidly becoming a comedy of errors. It is hard to believe St. John's could duplicate the fiasco that occurred six years ago when it was turned down by Hewitt and had to eventually hire Roberts. This time around, Monasch boxed himself into a corner when he claimed that St. John's had the resources to pay a Top 25 coach, and then haphazardly grasped at straws by putting together a wish list of candidates without properly gauging the probability of getting them. PGA Tour struggling without Tiger
Tiger Woods is the most important player to the game of golf in terms of the bottom line. As far as professional golf is concerned, Woods cannot come back fast enough. The PGA Tour is at a critical juncture. Next year it will begin negotiating new TV contracts with CBS and NBC. In the meantime, the tour is trying to secure sponsors for 10 events in 2011 while economic conditions are not exactly favorable. Two of the hardest-hit industries, financial services and car manufacturing, are responsible for underwriting a third of the PGA Tour's sponsored events. (The New York Times Magazine)Comment
