Terry Francona is moving Tim Wakefield out of the rotation and Daisuke Matsuzaka in. The concern is that the Red Sox are not pitching well and have a roster full of mismatched pieces. There are two DHs, a catcher who can't throw, and outfielders who hit at the bottom of the order more often than not. In Wakefield, David Ortiz, Mike Lowell, and Jason Varitek, Francona also has four older players on the downside of their careers who believe they should be playing every day and aren't. Brad Childress seems unconcerned about what to some fans appears to be a gaping hole at quarterback if Brett Favre chooses not to return. Do the Vikings really have a long-term plan at quarterback, or is this situation so fluid that even a franchise that appears to be poised to make another Super Bowl run isn't completely sure how things will play out? At the owners meetings in late March, Childress expressed confidence in [Tavaris] Jackson and [Sage] Rosenfels and indicated that if Favre doesn't return, Jackson would have the upper hand in the battle for the starting job heading into training camp. Reports out of Philadlephia have the 76ers waiting on the playoff exit of Charlotte to contact Larry Brown, who has said he'd like to coach for Michael Jordan. But Brown's family -- wife Shelly; son A.J., 15; and daughter Madison, soon to be 13 -- has remained in the Philadelphia area since Brown left the Sixers after the 2002-03 season. ... It has been reported that Jordan has given Brown permission to return home if the position involves authority over basketball decisions, something Brown does not have in Charlotte.
