James, Wade guilty of tampering?

Super-free-agents-to-be may set their own table. It's a whole different kind of collusion, and there is nothing the league can do about it. Some time next month, Dwyane Wade, LeBron James and Joe Johnson are all going to sit down together and talk free agency plans, Wade told the Chicago Tribune. All before the July 1 official start to free agency. ... Bottom line, they are going to choreograph the dance. They will work to set up package deals. The players will talk with each other, and unofficially they will know what the teams are thinking (although they won't say that). The NBA has a tampering problem, it just can't really do anything about it. (Probasketballtalk.com)Comment

Ted Lilly a cheater?

Is Ted Lilly a cheater? Casey Blake accused [Lilly] of cheating on Thursday, trying unsuccessfully to persuade the umpires that the Chicago Cubs pitcher should have been cited for starting his windup on some pitches from in front of the rubber. "I know he doesn't have an overpowering fastball," Blake said. "I know he's trying to get as much of an edge as he can. But he moved in. "That's cheating. You've got to stay on the rubber." Lilly did not hesitate to fire back. "Sometimes a batter will get in the box and he'll step out, and behind the box, and on the lines," Lilly said. "I don't think he's trying to cheat. It might not be intentional." (Los Angeles Times)Comment

Williams a 'big mistake' in Big D

For the headlines Roy Williams is capable of making, there seems to be something missing in his fit with the Cowboys. Will the Cowboys really release Patrick Crayton, a decent #3 receiver and punt returner with experience and keep Roy Williams just because of his contract? When you put it that way, no, it doesn't seem fair. Crayton is more versatile than Williams. But Jerry's not ready to admit he made such a big mistake on Roy. If he could ever play to his potential, Roy's a weapon. Jerry would like to think he's finally going to get that now. Nothing motivates like a contract year or competition for your position.
