Stafford scoffs at injury-prone label
Matthew Stafford did not appreciate the inference. "Not really," he said when it was suggested to him that sustaining three major injuries in 11 games might lead some to call him injury prone. "Those were pretty perfect hits. I just got dropped on my shoulder pretty hard both times. I wouldn't call it injury prone; more like weird, freaky injuries." The only news the Lions and Stafford revealed Monday about the right shoulder injury he suffered at the end of the first half Sunday is that it won't require surgery. (The Detroit News)Comment
Giants enjoy most favorable home stretch
If their schedule is any indication, the Giants may have the inside track on the NL West. Of their 18 remaining games [entering Monday's action], only six are on the road and six are against contending teams. On the final weekend, they host the Padres for three games. And their coming nine games are against the Los Angeles Dodgers, Milwaukee Brewers and Chicago Cubs, against whom they are a combined 15-8. The Padres have the greatest challenge. Though they've been a capable road team (before losing five of their last six), those wins aren't coming as easily, and 13 of their final 20 are away from Petco Park. (Yahoo! Sports)Comment

Jake Delhomme may have had enough to worry about with his performance, and now he may be dinged up physically. He injured his right ankle in his Browns debut, was still sore Monday and will undergo tests as early as [Tuesday]. "We'll get him tested and looked at and figure out where we're at," coach Eric Mangini said. ... President Mike Holmgren said at the Ring of Honor kickoff at Cleveland Browns Stadium that the ankle was "sore."
