Charlie Batch may be Pittsburgh's only option at quarterback in Week 3. Steelers coach Mike Tomlin acknowledged that Batch's history of injuries worked against him. He looked to be the quarterback they would release to start the season. And here he is, the only healthy one on their roster with a chance to start the Steelers' next game Sunday in Tampa, Fla. The news on the latest injury to a Steelers quarterback may not be as good as they had hoped Sunday after Dennis Dixon's left knee was injured in their 19-11 victory at Tennessee. One source close to the situation said that Dixon has a torn lateral meniscus, which could keep him out 3-5 weeks. (Pittsburgh Post-Gazette)Comment
Lidge back in form just in time
Brad Lidge didn't get much credit for shutting the Braves down in the ninth Monday night, but that may be all the credit he needs. [When] he struck out Derrek Lee swinging to end the game, padding the Phillies' lead to four games with 11 to play, the roar of approval from the packed blue seats was loud and heartfelt. Afterward, though, not so much. Lidge's 1-2-3 save went unremarked upon in manager Charlie Manuel's postgame postmortem. Which, in a way, is a silent acknowledgment of just how far Lidge has come. ... Williams thought of quitting post-Decision
Credit Mo Williams for his honesty. [Williams] is 27, healthy and has three years and $26 million remaining on his Cleveland Cavaliers contract. But none of that mattered much to him this summer after he watched LeBron James leave the Cavs to join the Miami Heat. Williams said he was so depressed by James' exit that he considered walking away from the NBA. "That's how bad it got," Williams said. "I contemplated it.
