Butkus on Bears: 'It can only get worse'
When Dick Butkus talks in Chicago, people listen. "The offensive line is awful," he said on Chicago Tribune Live. "The 'Skins and whoever else we play have to be looking at tapes today and licking their chops. ... It would be different if it was just the left tackle blowing a block every other play. But this is the left guard, then the left tackle, then the right guard." On the new coordinators, Butkus said: "Was Lovie (Smith) forced to hire these guys? Is he a lame-duck head coach? ... Devils coach John MacLean switched up his lines again for [Monday's] practice. The line of Zach Parise, Travis Zajac and Dainius Zubrus remained intact from Saturday's 4-1 loss to Boston, but MacLean changed one player on each of the other three lines. He put Patrik Elias at left wing and switched Ilya Kovalchuk back to right wing on a line with rookie Jacob Josefson as the center. He replaced Elias with Rod Pelley at left wing on the line with Jason Arnott and Jamie Langenbrunner and shifted David Clarkson to the fourth line with Adam Mair at the left wing and Tim Sestito at center. MacLean is hoping Pelley's energy will rub off on his new linemates. (The Record)Comment
Bradley over past gripes with Wedge
Milton Bradley and new Mariners manager Eric Wedge, it was reported Monday, have a history, but Bradley seems willing to let it go. Bradley, [a Mariners source said], was positive about Wedge's hiring in his text messages, and said he didn't mind if his sentiment was made public. In one, Bradley wrote, "Whatever took place was six or seven years ago and I'm over it." Bradley also wrote, "He was a disciplinarian and I felt our team lacked discipline last year. Hopefully, he instills some of that." For the Mariners, that's a very encouraging reaction by Bradley. (Seattle Times)Comment
