Why is it that Bill Cowher is never seriously considered as the next Cowboy head coach? Cowher will probably have better options such as the New York Giants. Plus, we don't know how inclined Jerry Jones is to give another coach so much power and authority. Cowher would have all of the leverage, if he talked to Jerry about the job. Plus, Jerry stepped aside and let Bill Parcells run the show for essentially four years -- and it netted him the same amount of playoff victories as being heavily involved with the Chan Gailey and Dave Campo regimes -- none. I don't know that he's inclined to give up that power again. (Dallas Morning News)Comment
Kobe Bryant is used to playing heavy minutes, logging an average of 39.3 a game over the last six seasons, but he won't be anywhere near that playing time to start the season if Lakers coach Phil Jackson gets his way. Bryant's minutes will be monitored closely at first, yet another sign he hasn't fully recovered from off-season knee surgery in July. (Los Angeles Times)Comment
Magic wants to own sports team
Magic Johnson said Wednesday he will "look at every opportunity" in the future to become a majority owner of a sports team, but that he hasn't joined forces with anybody yet. However, Johnson said he wants to play a role in bringing the NFL back to Los Angeles. As for the NBA, Johnson said he has not talked with his hometown Detroit Pistons, although the club is for sale. Mike Ilitch, who owns the Tigers and Red Wings, is negotiating to buy the Pistons and has reached out to Johnson, the former Lakers star said. (Los Angeles Times)Comment
