BoSox already considering major move?
Only 9,523 were on hand to watch the Red Sox fall to 0-5 in Cleveland -- probably best at this point to keep eyes shielded from the futility. If the Sox make a roster move before tomorrow's game, would it be a surprise? Dennys Reyes has faced 10 batters in the first five games of the season and six have gotten on base. Of the six lefthanded hitters he has faced, four have reached. The first batter against him has gotten on three out of four times. That the Red Sox are an embarrassing 0-5 is not the fault of Reyes. But clearly something has to happen. ... Things are so bad that Youkilis thought about dropping [a] line drive with the bases loaded in the sixth inning to get a double play. Falcons already found Gonzalez replacement?
News broke earlier this week that Tony Gonzalez, in the event of a lockout-lost 2011 season, may retire. The Falcons do not currently have his successor on the roster, so it shouldn't come to much of a surprise that they're looking into a developmental tight end. The team is expected to have TE Virgil Green (Nevada) in for a visit soon, according to a source close to the Nevada program. Green, who is known in scouting circles as one of the most athletic players available for the 2011 NFL Draft at his position, put together an outstanding NFL Scouting Combine workout. Green, who is expected to go off the board in the third round, posted an unheard of 42 ?? vertical jump (best of all tight ends), as high as a 4.54 40-yard dash (best of all tight ends), 10'10' broad jump (best of all tight ends). Turbulence in background of Hawks' berth
The Hawks' nailing down a playoff spot doesn't quite tell the story in Atlanta. The Hawks are locked into the No. 5 playoff seed in the Eastern Conference, but they aren't locked in. They have nagging issues to go with their nagging injuries. Coach Larry Drew has to manage those competing concerns over the final four games of the regular season. "It's tough," Drew said. "Health is always the first priority. When you go through a long schedule, a long season, you are going to have injuries. If you are in the playoff hunt, the playoff picture, you have got to try to find that balance." Philadelphia can't catch the Hawks for the No. 5 seed after it lost at Boston on Tuesday, and the Hawks (44-34) can't overtake Orlando for the No. 4 seed.
