Heat to gut roster for 2011-12?
The Big Three, though at times it has been speculated otherwise, is not likely to change in Miami. You don't host a party one year then usher out the guests of honor the next. So 2011-12 (lockout permitting) for the Miami Heat will start where 2010-11 ended, with a blueprint designed around the skills of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh. The difference will be that Heat President Pat Riley and coach Erik Spoelstra will have a greater sense of what it takes to complement such a core. ... In fact, the Heat could return as few as seven players from the current roster, when counting James, Wade, Bosh, Anthony, Mike Miller, Udonis Haslem and [James Jones]. Manny's pay could sink Dodgers
A balloon payment of sorts places in jeopardy the Dodgers' ability to meet June 30th payroll obligations. [Frank McCourt] is expected to meet the Dodgers' payroll Wednesday, according to three people briefed on the matter but not authorized to discuss it. The Dodgers owe about $10 million in payroll Wednesday, according to one of the people, but that figure roughly triples for the June 30 payment as several deferred salaries come due, including more than $8 million to Manny Ramirez. The Dodgers appear to have "no chance" to meet the June 30 payroll without a cash infusion from a new television contract, according to a person familiar with McCourt's finances but not authorized to discuss them. One need not be a conspiracy theorist to notice the coincidence. From the very beginning, the United Football League (UFL) knew that the NFL faced labor uncertainty during 2011-12 and that the upstart league could capitalize. "The planning of this anticipated that we could possibly leapfrog significantly in the third season," UFL commissioner Michael Huyghue said. "We were hopeful that the situation would be almost exactly like it is right now." That planning could come to fruition this year. ... The talent level has been elevated. Returning UFL starters from the 2010 season have a good shot of playing, but last year???s backups likely will not make teams this season. QB Colt Brennan signed with the Hartford Colonials.
