Eagles' McCoy rips Osi as overrated
According to multiple reports Thursday, Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora has taken his beef with GM Jerry Reese to the courts for failing to renegotiate his contract. But the most entertaining part of this story -- for this crowd anyway -- came after the story was reported and Eagles running back LeSean McCoy took a shot at Umenyiora via Twitter: Overrated n soft 3rd best d-line on his team honestly ... McCoy carried 24 times for 175 yards in two games against the Giants last season, averaging 7.29 yards per carry. Umenyiora had 11.5 sacks last season, tied for seventh-best in the NFL. Kazmir heading back to New York?
Despite his unsightly lines -- in the minors, no less -- Scott Kazmir is likely to get another shot from an MLB club. [Kazmir's] release by Anaheim Wednesday created an intriguing opportunity for 29 teams -- lefthander, only 27 years old, once started a World Series Game 1--but it was particularly interesting for the Mets, who will consider signing him. New York infamously traded Kazmir, then their top pitching prospect and a first round draft choice, to Tampa Bay in 2004 for pitcher Victor Zambrano. It was a low moment for the fan base, excited about Kazmir's potential. ... Sandy Alderson said Thursday that his team would consider Kazmir. "We look at everybody who hits the wire, and the same would apply to him," said the GM, who is typically willing to shoot down speculation about players in whom he is not interested. Blazer prospect feels like hostage
This wasn't exactly saying kiitos. In a recent interview with the Finnish newspaper Ilta-Sanomat, point guard Petteri Koponen, a 2007 NBA Draft selection of the Philadelphia 76ers (whose rights were then traded to Portland) voiced his concerns over the way the Trail Blazers have handled him and his career path as he continues to play overseas in Italy. "It seems that Portland only wants to keep me so that none of their competitors can have me. Sometimes I feel like a hostage. Yes, my agent and I talked about this with them. It doesn't feel right, because it is, however, my dream (to play in the NBA) and this is my career." With all of the changes to the Trail Blazers front office the past two years, one has to wonder where the Blazers' brass stands on the young Finn. (The Oregonian)Comment
