White Sox GM has post-Ozzie plan

When one considers the end of the Ozzie era, "surprise" probably doesn't come to mind first. Since the Marlins contacted the Chicago White Sox as early as September 2010 to seek permission to talk to manager Ozzie Guillen, Sox general manager Ken Williams has been prepared to find a successor. That time finally has arrived, although Williams declined to elaborate Monday night. "I have definite answers on that," said Williams, who had yet to name an interim manager for the final two games of 2011. "I will say just very briefly that because of the warnings, we've had ample time to kind of dwindle a list to a few select candidates. And we think that we can act swiftly, but I think that accompanies a plan of attack to the 2012, '13, '14 seasons." (Chicago Tribune)Comment

Manning's injury far worse?

Jim Irsay, while speaking at a Super Bowl-related event Monday, sent some panic through Colts nation when he reportedly said he didn't expect a Peyton Manning return this season. Irsay later clarified his remarks on Twitter: "I didn't say Peyton out 4season FOR SURE, keeping him on ActiveRoster n taking it month by month/Outside chance of return n December possible." Irsay's clarification came too late. The damage was done. It reignited speculation throughout football that Manning's injury remains far worse than the Colts are saying despite the team reiterating it expects Manning back this year. ... [The] larger the concerns grow that not only is Manning's 2011 season in jeopardy but his overall future, according to a medical expert consulted by CBSSports.com. (CBSSports.com)Comment

Sooners DB fires back at Durant

Kevin Durant is burnt orange, through and through, and he's not shy about tweaking Sooners Nation. He's added the phrase "Hook 'em Horns" to each autograph he's signed at OU football games. He's sat courtside at OU basketball games and flashed the two-finger Hook 'em Horns sign. He's even taken his needling to Twitter. On Saturday, Durant posted a simple but around these parts scathing message: "LSU > OU..." [Monday], one of the Sooners, sophomore defensive back Tony Jefferson, fired back. "Kevin durant. Please stop talking trash about the sooners. You play in Oklahoma. Regardless if you went to Texas. We support u #jerk : (" It brings up an interesting question. Should Kevin Durant be able to diss OU? Jefferson is right. This state supports Durant. (The Oklahoman)Comment
