Colts to keep Manning sidelined all season?

Does it make any sense to bring Peyton Manning back if or when he's healthy enough to play, and will there be a house-cleaning before we see him again? It's entirely possible owner Jim Irsay will decide he wants a new head coach. You'll hear all the popular names -- Jeff Fisher, Jon Gruden, Bill Cowher. Again, it might happen. Irsay might even decide to totally clean house and get rid of Bill Polian and Chris Polian. That would truly be dramatic. As for Manning, I agree it would make no sense to get him on the field in late December. Maybe there's a reason, but I can't grasp it. Aside from getting him hit a ton, the team can determine his readiness to play on the practice field. (Indianapolis Star)Comment

Real Madrid pitching rich offer to Gasol

Real Madrid is still chasing Pau Gasol's younger brother. According to Marca, Real Madrid is studying the possibility to make a rich proposal to Marc Gasol. The Spanish team wants Marc Gasol to be the franchise player for the future. Florentino Perez, president of the club, gave his approval to the entire operation. The biggest hurdle is the NBA lockout. Marc Gasol said that he will start considering proposals from Europe and Spain just if the NBA season will be completely cancelled. Real Madrid already tried to sign Pau Gasol younger brother in 2008 before he decided to land in NBA to Memphis Grizzlies. (Sportando)Comment

Cardinals' Carpenter quite the trash-talker

Despite his Game 5 heroics, Mike Napoli did come up a little short in the sixth inning. The out ended the inning, but it also revealed that St. Louis starter Chris Carpenter isn't a fan of Napoli. FOX television cameras aired Carpenter's reaction after the ball was caught, and it looked as if the right-hander mouthed a few expletives in Napoli's direction. The Rangers catcher was asked about those words during the post game press conference. ... "It's unfortunate if he was yelling at me because we've never had any things going on. So it's unfortunate, but it's not my -- I'm not going to pursue anything." Apparently it has nothing to do with Napoli, Carpenter just doesn't like any of his opponents.
