It's time for the Colts to move on from Manning
A Peyton Manning headline, at long last, was finally freighted with some positive vibes. The Thursday night news that his neck is healing, that he has a chance to play football again, is an undeniably wonderful development for a guy who has given heart and soul to this franchise and this city. And yet, as far as the Indianapolis Colts are concerned, it shouldn't really matter. Whether Manning heals completely or not, whether he returns to practice this month or not, bringing him back next year and beyond would be salary cap suicide and set the franchise back for years to come. It makes no sense, none, to mortgage the team's long-term future and [slow] Andrew Luck's progress while gambling on Manning's health and longevity. (Indianapolis Star)Comment
Warriors eye adding Paul and Chandler
To the extent the Warriors believe they are at a crossroads, Dec. 9 and beyond could get very interesting at Golden State. The Warriors probably can make a big one-player splash if they open up the vault and if they can woo the right free agent. (Focus: free-agent center Tyson Chandler, an almost perfect match for the current GSW needs, but he will not come cheaply. ... They can dramatically re-make the roster if they're willing to risk acquiring a pending free agent AND add a ton of money AND trade away several popular players. Marlins 'optimistic' on landing Reyes
At this point, it may come as a greater surprise when the Marlins land a high-profile free agent than to find out they're interested in one. Heath Bell is the latest name, but All-Star shortstop Jose Reyes has been connected with the Marlins for quite a while in rumors. ... [The] Marlins are optimistic they will land Reyes and are simply waiting on his decision. "Hopes are high," according to sources with knowledge of the team's thinking. And it's not just the Marlins themselves thinking this way. "Everyone seems to think Reyes is the right fit for the Marlins," a baseball source told Miller.
