British service men and women to take part in Games medal ceremonies

LONDON (AP) -- The 805 medal ceremonies at this year's London Olympics will have flag bearers drawn from Britain's Army, Navy and Air Force.

The 176 active service men and women will wear ceremonial uniforms as they raise the athletes' national flags and also take part in 100 welcome ceremonies for teams.

The flag bearers were chosen because of their sporting achievements, service records or community work.

London 2012 chair Sebastian Coe says flag raising is "seen as an honor but we are in fact honored to have these inspirational men and women be part of London 2012."
