Little League manager suspended for 2012 LLWS

A sports official says a manager for an 11-12 boys' team from Georgia that competed in the 2011 Little League World Series has been suspended for the 2012 international tournament.

Little League International spokesman Stephen Barr said Tuesday manager Phillip Johnson of the Warner Robins American Little League was barred for the upcoming tournament only. Barr says Johnson broke a rule against having alcohol in the Little League International complex during the 2011 World Series in South Williamsport, Pa.

Johnson didn't return an Associated Press call seeking comment.

The Telegraph of Macon quoted Johnson as saying he took alcohol given him by a parent to an alcohol-free area, but threw it out without consuming it and regretted the incident.

Team president Mickey Lay told the paper Johnson broke no law.
