Hoffa wins Kansas Relays shot put

Reese Hoffa won the shot put in the Kansas Relays on Wednesday at 71 feet, 3 3/4 inches, the best mark in the world this year.

Hoffa, the U.S. Indoor champion this year, topped 2008 Olympic silver medalist Christian Cantwell on his sixth and final throw. Cantwell finished second at 71-2 3/4.

The event was held in the middle of Eighth Street in downtown Lawrence for the second consecutive year.

Dylan Armstrong, the top thrower in the world in 2011, failed to register a mark.
