Dumais wins 3-meter springboard at diving nationals

U.S. Olympian Troy Dumais added to his career medal count Saturday, winning the men's 3-meter springboard at the U.S. national diving championships.

Dumais, the bronze medalist in the men's synchronized 3-meter springboard at the London Olympics, beat out older brother Justin Dumais of Orlando, Fla., 511.70-467.30.

It was the 36th career U.S. nationals title for Troy Dumais, of Austin, Texas, and his ninth in the last 10 years in the men's 3-meter springboard.

"I just tried to take it very slowly," said Dumais, who earned a berth in the U.S. nationals final round by qualifying for the U.S. Olympic team.

"I haven't done any diving since the Olympics, and I was off on the board a little bit. But I just wanted to enjoy diving with my brothers. They pushed themselves and did really well."

Despite the lack of diving time, Dumais posted scores of 80 or better on five of his six dives, including a pair of 90s. His best came on the fifth dive, a final-round high 99.75 on a reverse 3 1/2 somersault tuck.

Aaron Fleshner of Spring, Texas, who won the men's 1-meter springboard title this week, finished third at 466.20. Dwight Dumais of Austin, Texas, the middle of the Dumais brothers, was fifth at 459.40.

Other winners Saturday were Jessica Parratto in the women's 10-meter platform, Steele Johnson and Dashiell Enos in the men's synchronized 10-meter platform, and Meghan Houston and Laura Ryan in the women's synchronized 3-meter springboard.

Parratto, from Indianapolis, won her first U.S. nationals title in the women's 10-meter platform by less than three points over Amy Cozad of Bloomington, Ind., 351.05-348.15. Katrina Young of Shoreline, Wash., was third at 344.20.

Johnson, of Carmel, Ind., and Enos, of Indianapolis, Ind., won their first U.S. nationals title in the men's synchronized 10-meter platform with a final-round total of 417.84.

Johnson also claimed a share of second place, teaming with Toby Stanley of Conway, Ark., at 413.22. Zachary Cooper, 14, of Franklin, Ind., and 13-year-old Jordan Windle of Indianapolis were third at 367.83.

Houston, of Austin, Texas, and Ryan, of Elk River, Minn., also became first-time U.S. nationals winners in the women's synchronized 3-meter springboard with a final-round score of 309.30.

Gabriella Agostino of South Bend, Ind., and Logan Kline of Mission Hills, Kan., were second at 291.30, and Lindsay Keahy of Katy, Texas, and Christa Cabot of The Woodlands, Texas, finished third at 266.04.
