Jim Irsay, who knows how to cause a stir on Twitter, was at it again. It all started, then built, with [Irsay's tweets, specifically: "SERIOUS TRADE WINDS Swirling! We're talking given up high pick for SERIOUS Vet/Starter!.. these deals often crumble n don't reach completion" Then: "Colts Fans..Your GM Mr Grigson isn't afraid to roll the dice n aggressively improve YOUR Indianapolis Colts..n my check book stands ready!" Then: "9 times out of 10 these deals fizzle out like a faulty Roman Candle;any other info at this time is proprietary, must move behind the curtain!" Speculation has run to Pittsburgh wide receiver Mike Wallace and Jacksonville running back Maurice Jones-Drew. ... A reliable source told me the Colts target is a cornerback. Not shy with his opinions, Ozzie Guillen sounded Thursday like a man managing a franchise with an identity crisis. An honest assessment will determine where the club is headed. Will it go young, find core players and grow together? Or will it brush off 2012 as a bad year, regroup and make the necessary additions to make a strong run in '13? "If we're going to be younger here, then OK, what kind of young team are we going to have?" Guillen said. "Are we going to go forward, or are we going to stay the same? If we're going to go young, just go young, and suffer for a couple of years and see what happens. Or are you going to compete, and make a mix [of veterans with young players]? Then who's coming here to make the mix? It's all a process." (MLB.com)Comment
If it's the offseason, it's time to wonder about the horizon in Sacramento. The now annual Sacramento Kings question has lifted its dark head once again: Are they leaving or not? Perhaps even the Kings don't know. Team officials declined Thursday to respond to a published report in a Virginia paper that the team will join Comcast-Spectacor and Live Nation in pitching an arena proposal to Virginia Beach city officials next week. Citing anonymous sources, the Hampton Roads Business Journal said team owners are expected to be in Virginia on Tuesday when Comcast unveils an arena proposal. ... Publicly, the team acknowledged it has been contacted by other cities in recent years about the possibility of selling or moving the team. (The Sacramento Bee)Comment
