Coming off its bye week, it didn't take long for things to get sideways for Minnesota on Sunday. [The] Vikings seemed unfit for the task from the beginning. Running back Adrian Peterson left the team hotel in a cab at 10 a.m., which was when players were supposed to be at the stadium. Coach Leslie Frazier said "there is something that Adrian and I need to talk about regarding getting to the stadium," and Peterson fumbled away his third carry of the game when Nick Roach punched the ball free. That set up the Bears' first touchdown of the game, after the Vikings had turned a Matt Forte fumble into an early field goal and forced a three-and-out. ... Early return for Rubio?

Now that Kevin Love is back in the lineup, having played three games since returning, the Ricky Rubio watch is on. [Rubio] likely isn't all that far behind. Rubio is scheduled to return to his Vail, Colo., surgeon on Monday for a three-day visit after which the Wolves hope he will be cleared for contact practice when the team returns from this trip after Wednesday's game in L.A. Some time ago Rubio said that last visit to see Dr. Richard Steadman would be mostly to shake up hand and get clearance to go back on the court. ... [There's] no question Rubio's return is getting closer, maybe closer than expected, particularly if you weren't expecting him back until Christmas or later. (Star Tribune)Comment

Chargers' locker room not happy

One of the loneliest sounds in sports could be heard Sunday in San Diego as cleats clicked quietly up a carpeted tunnel after another Chargers loss. A 10-point lead over the Ravens with less than four minutes remaining unwound into a 16-13 overtime defeat. There may not be one descriptor to capture the mood in the locker room afterward. So, inside linebacker Takeo Spikes used three. "Everybody is baffled," Spikes said. "It's puzzled, distraught." While others undressed and showered to drip the stench away, safety Corey Lynch sat in full pads at his locker, staring blankly into the backboard as reporters entered the room. Spikes, whose locker was across from him, gave Lynch a supportive pop to his right shoulder pad. (U-T San Diego)Comment
