Do Jets coaches think Tebow's a bust?
Will Rex Ryan be ready to close the book on Mark Sanchez by going with Greg McElroy? Where does Tim Tebow figure in all this? Ryan had so many opportunities to use Tebow earlier in the season when Sanchez struggled and he refused to do so. Then, in the first game with McElroy as the backup, with Tebow out with broken ribs, he benched Sanchez. That is not a coincidence. It's clear the Jets coaches think Tebow really stinks. Ryan wouldn't even admit he would have benched Sanchez on Sunday if Tebow had been the No. 2 quarterback. Instead, he auditioned for "Dancing With the Stars," by sidestepping the question. "I don't want to get into the what-ifs and all that kind of stuff," he said. "The fact is Greg was the guy that was active." (New York Daily News)Comment
Did steroids play a role in A-Rod's injury?
The speculation that steroids have played a role in Alex Rodriguez's continuing injury issues, including his most recent diagnosis of a torn labrum, bone impingement and a cyst in his left hip that could cost him the first half of the season, isn't going away. Yankees general manager Brian Cashman was asked at a press briefing Monday in Nashville whether he believes A-Rod's latest injury is related to steroid use. Rodriguez admitted in 2009 that he had used steroids from 2001-03 when he played for the Texas Rangers. "Do I wonder whether it is?" Cashman repeated when asked about the possibility of steroid use contributing to the second hip operation on the team's third baseman in four years. "It doesn't matter what I wonder. But the bottom line is it is definitely something that's occurred within our industry and it's happening in football, and thankfully there are doctors in a position to fix it. They can repair the labrum in the hip, which I didn't even know existed, and they can get people back to functional work, even the pro athletes." Cashman said he has "no idea" if the injury is related to steroids, a question that also arose in 2009 when Rodriguez needed what the Yankees described as a "similar but not identical' procedure performed by Dr. Marc Philippon in Vail, Colo., to repair his right hip. Another Frozen Fenway in 2014?
The Fenway Sports Group and the Boston Red Sox reportedly are in the planning stages of another "Frozen Fenway" event, with the goal of playing more hockey games at Fenway Park next winter. "We are deep into the planning phase for the possibility of a return of Frozen Fenway in 2014," Red Sox executive vice president and chief operating officer Sam Kennedy said in a story reported by College Hockey news. "We will need to secure proper city approvals and complete our negotiations with the many teams who are interested in competing before we will have any formal announcement." In combination with the NHL's Winter Classic between the Philadelphia Flyers and Boston Bruins on Jan. 1, 2010, Fenway Park hosted its first Frozen Fenway series, with Boston University beating Boston College 3-2 on Jan. 8 in a game that drew 38,472 fans.
