Mystery solved? Fearful of a blackout not unlike one that marred a nationally televised San Francisco 49ers game in late 2011, officials from Entergy and the Superdome embarked on a last-minute, multimillion dollar effort to ensure such a spectacle wouldn't be repeated at this year's Super Bowl. But the 11th-hour upgrades to the Dome's electrical system, intended to bolster the stadium's electrical reliability, may have contributed to the 34-minute power outage that left New Orleans feeling a bit sheepish in the afterglow of the big game. In December, a little more than a month before the Super Bowl, Entergy New Orleans was in the process of completing a $4.2 million upgrade to the stadium's electrical system, changing it from "redundant" to "tertiary." Mavs may look to move big names
Down the stretch they come -- to the trade deadline, that is, which forces teams to decide whether to push for the playoffs or look to some degree toward the future. Keep an eye on Dallas, as rival executives believe the Mavericks will look to unload some of their older money if they keep losing (aka Shawn Marion, who is owed $9.3 million in the last year of his deal in 2013-14, or Vince Carter, who is owed $3.1 million in the last year of his deal in 2013-14). Dallas has lost 18 of its past 27 games and starts a five-game homestand on Wednesday that includes Portland, Golden State, Atlanta, Sacramento, and Orlando. (USA Today Sports)Comment
Credit David Wright for going all-in with the Mets. That includes being a front-line recruiter for Sandy Alderson & Co. Wright told The Post yesterday he has spoken with and exchanged texts with free-agent center fielder Michael Bourn in an attempt to lure him to Citi Field. "I just wanted to let him know that he would be a great addition here and he'd obviously be welcomed here," Wright said after his first early workout at the Mets' spring training complex. "I talked to him a couple weeks ago, and I told him, 'You're always in the right place at the right time, your work counts,'" Wright said. "I've always had great respect for him and the way he plays the game and have always kind of chatted with him when he gets to third base." (New York Post)Comment
