Fans in Chicago weren't the only folks left emotional over Brian Urlacher's likely departure from the Bears -- so was chairman of the board George McCaskey. "I said going into the process I'd be heartbroken if he didn't come back and I am," McCaskey said [Tuesday]. "Our whole family is." ... Asked if there was any chance Urlacher still could return, McCaskey said, "That's up to the market and (general manager) Phil (Emery) and (head coach) Marc (Trestman). Phil said it's a process. We'll just go through it and see what happens." When a reporter asked if McCaskey was not ruling out a return, he said, "That's not up to me. Talking about NBA prospects on Tuesday, Mark Cuban expanded, as he is wont to do, conventional wisdom. "If he's good, we're looking at him," Cuban said. "I don't care if the guy is from Upper Slobovia. If he can play, we'll take them. If Brittney Griner can play, we'll take her with our second-round pick. I don't care." And with that, the can of worms officially got ripped open. Cuban said he's serious about the possibility of bringing in Baylor's 6-8 star now that her college eligibility is done. "If she's the best on the board, we'll take her," Cuban said. "If we have the 60th pick and she's on the board, we still might take her." (The Dallas Morning News)Comment

The Avs weren't supposed to be active at the deadline, but they weren't supposed to stumble through much of this season, either. "You just never know," defenseman Erik Johnson said Monday before the Avs lost [to Detroit]. ... "It's probably an unnerving time for everybody. Anything can happen." Given that forwards Matt Duchene and Gabe Landeskog are considered untouchable, center Ryan O'Reilly is untouchable because of his contract and that playoff contenders don't need a starting goalie in Semyon Varlamov, the 25-year-old Johnson could be one of the few players to warrant significant return in a possible trade.
