Soon it may all be over in L.A. for embattled manager Don Mattingly. Now I'm convinced that Mattingly is going to get fired. ... The Dodgers were swept over their weekend in Atlanta, getting outscored, 16-8. Their bullpen allowed 12 of the runs. And Mattingly's postgame quotes were the equivalent of bad body language. ... [I thought], "Mattingly might be gone tomorrow." And then I got a text from a rival scout, one who has no particular insight into the Dodgers, but is attuned -- like so many in the sport -- to the game's day-to-day rhythms. "Making the call -- Donnie Ballgame will get the axe tomorrow," the scout said. When I asked the scout why he thought that, he replied, "Gut feeling. The way they've been losing." (FOX Sports)Comment
Gronk told to curb his enthusiasm?
So much for Vegas, baby. Is Rob Gronkowski being told to curb his enthusiasm, again? Last winter, after the hard-partying Patriots tight end was seen wrestling in Las Vegas -- with a broken forearm -- many believe he was told by team officials to calm down. ... Well, last week we noticed that an entity called JumpSeat was offering fans a chance to fly to Las Vegas with Gronkowski in a private jet -- for a mere $40,000. ... But just as we were getting excited about the prospect of hitting the mile-high minibar with Gronk, the company pulled the plug. "Hey Folks," tweeted @JumpSeatMe. "Sorry ???bout the disappointment, but the Gronk trip is not happening. He is staying home relaxing." (The Boston Globe)Comment
Captain Ryan Callahan said after Sunday's loss that if the Rangers play the way they did in the first two periods against the Bruins, they'll be OK -- but that isn't the only if heading back to New York. Also, there has to be a little concern over Henrik Lundqvist. At 15:08 of the third period, he leapt forward to cover the puck after a Daniel Paille deflection try. Lundqvist remained on the ice for a bit and was in obvious discomfort while rotating his left arm, something he continued after the stoppage. ... [It] was unclear exactly how Lundqvist got hurt.
