Miami's Wallace seethes after win
Jeff Ireland did his best do diffuse the situation, leading the visibly angry Mike Wallace toward the Dolphins locker room Sunday afternoon. Ireland talked to the visibly upset and sullen Wallace the entire time as Wallace shook his head in disgust until they both disappeared into the Miami locker room. The winning locker room. ... [The Dolphins], after all, didn't pay him to become the NFL's highest-paid decoy, so he has something of a point. But when his simmering frustration boils over so publicly after a victory, it suggests he's more concerned with "me" than "we." And that's bad for the Dolphins. Yet that's exactly how it looked when Wallace was among the first players to get dressed and leave the locker room while still wearing a scowl on his face. (Miami Herald)Comment
Those three words pro athletes don't like to hear -- Dr. James Andrews -- are now on the horizon. Matt Harvey, who has a partially torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow, will receive a second opinion from [Andrews], likely within the coming week. The organization has not yet decided whether Harvey will undergo Tommy John surgery, a procedure that Andrews has performed on countless pitchers. Appearing on MLB Network Radio, Mets general manager Sandy Alderson indicated he's hoping the Mets will have a clear direction with Harvey by the third or fourth week of September. "Until we get that opinion and some confirmation of the exact extent of the injury, I don't think we'll have any update," Alderson said on the radio. (MLB.com)Comment
Heat adding a center, auditioning a PG
For some time now, it has been assumed the Heat would be in the market for a big man and a point guard. Center Justin Hamilton, the Heat's second-round pick in 2012, will sign with Miami in the coming days and attend training camp, his agent J.R. Hensley told us. Hamilton, who played in Croatia and Latvia last season, did not participate in the Orlando or Las Vegas summer leagues because of a hamstring injury. He has been working out at AmericanAirlines Arena in recent weeks. ... Also, undrafted rookie point guard Larry Drew Jr., from UCLA, will audition for the Heat over several days this coming week. Drew, who averaged 7.5 points and 7.3 assists for the Bruins last season, was originally supposed to play on Miami's summer league team but could not because of a quad injury. (Miami Herald)Comment
