11 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets
Last Week: 17
ACC Coastal champ Virginia Tech must be grateful to have faced Paul Johnson's team early. It's hard to imagine the Hokies would fare as well today seeing as the Jackets have amassed 400-plus rushing yards their past two games.
Last game: Beat Georgia, 45-42.
Next game: Bowl game TBA.
12 Oklahoma State Cowboys
Last Week: 11
The Cowboys wound up going 5-3 in the Big 12 -- but my gosh, are they a dangerous team, as we saw again Saturday night when they racked up 41 points and 452 yards on Oklahoma. Have mercy on their bowl opponent.
Last game: Lost to Oklahoma, 61-41.
Next game: Bowl game TBA.
13 TCU Horned Frogs
Last Week: 14
TCU fans weren't pleased by demeaning comments from the Las Vegas Bowl's executive director, whose bowl will likely pass up the Horned Frogs for BYU. Personally, I'd take the trip to San Diego and a potential date with Boise State.
Last game: Beat Air Force, 44-10.
Next game: Bowl game TBA.
14 Cincinnati Bearcats
Last Week: 18
The Big East champion Bearcats tied a school record (set last season) with their 10th win, and they might not be done. They visit Hawaii this weekend for an extra regular-season game prior to a likely Jan. 1 date in the Orange Bowl.
Last game: Beat Syracuse, 30-10.
Next game: Saturday at Hawaii.
15 Ball State Cardinals
Last Week: 15
The Cardinals haven't won a MAC championship since 1996 -- and that year they went 8-4. They have a chance Friday to earn that elusive trophy and become the first 13-0 FBS team since Boise State did it two years ago.
Last game: Beat Western Michigan, 45-22.
Next game: Friday vs. Buffalo.
16 Oregon Ducks
Last Week: 22
Ducks coach Mike Bellotti called Saturday's Civil War upset "probably the most" satisfying win of his career. The Ducks exploded like a team that had been sitting on a year's worth of frustration from last season's disappointing ending.
Last game: Beat Oregon State, 65-38.
Next game: Bowl game TBA.
17 Boston College Eagles
Last Week: 19
Lose your first-round quarterback? No problem. The Eagles are heading back to the ACC title game because of a suffocating defense that leads the nation in interceptions (25) and held Maryland to minus-6 rushing yards.
Last game: Beat Maryland, 28-21.
Next game: Saturday vs. Virginia Tech.
18 Georgia Bulldogs
Last Week: 12
A season that began with hopes of a national title ended with three losses, including the Dawgs' first to Georgia Tech since 2000. The natives are getting edgy, but Mark Richt says he does not anticipate making any staff changes.
Last game: Lost to Georgia Tech, 45-42.
Next game: Bowl game TBA.
19 Missouri Tigers
Last Week: 13
Anything's possible, so you can't entirely rule out the possibility of a Tigers upset in Saturday's Big 12 title game. That said, it does not look good with the nation's 91st-ranked pass defense trying to stop Sooners star Sam Bradford.
Last game: Lost to Kansas, 40-37.
Next game: Saturday vs. Oklahoma.
20 Brigham Young Cougars
Last Week: 21
For all the hype about Michael Crabtree, Dez Bryant, Jeremy Maclin, et. al., the nation's leading receiver in total yardage is BYU's Austin Collie (1,419 yards.)
Last game: Lost to Utah, 48-24.
Next game: Bowl game TBA.
