Eagles now desperate for Vick

The ranks of quarterback were already thin in Philly, and then this for Nick Foles. Foles, the reigning NFC Offensive Player of the Week after a wonderful stand-in for starter Michael Vick in Tampa, completed 11 of 29 passes for 80 yards before leaving at the end of the third period with what is assumed to be a concussion. He was examined by a neurologist and did not return. Fourth-round rookie Matt Barkley debuted and threw three interceptions in the fourth quarter. "You've got to understand ... it's his first time playing," head coach Chip Kelly said. And, perhaps, his last. The good news for the Birds: Philadelphia's sheriff might be ready next week. Vick worked out before the game. He could return when the Giants' visit Sunday. "I'm hopeful Mike will be back," said Kelly, probably substituting "hopeful" for "desperate." USC just isn't USC anymore

Where have you gone, Southern Cal? A 2013 season that began disintegrating with horrid performances against Washington State and Arizona State and the inevitable firing of Lane Kiffin somehow managed to perk up momentarily under fun-meister Ed Orgeron. But on a chilly Saturday night in South Bend, Ind., the Trojans' season quickly plunged back into the depths of mediocrity. The cold reality is that right now, at this sad point in its history, USC isn't really USC anymore. Trojans' offensive linemen aren't supposed to get overpowered the way they were by Stephon Tuitt and friends at Notre Dame. USC's secondary isn't supposed to be more leaky than your average TMZ report. And USC's overall composure isn't supposed to wilt the way it did in a penalty-infested fourth quarter in Indiana. Clippers 'disrespectful' decision

Former Clipper and Los Angeles native Nick Young is no fan of the Clippers' initiative, led by Doc Rivers, to cover up the Lakers' championship banners and retired uniforms during Clippers home games. "He can do that?" Young said after Lakers practice Sunday, the team's first since returning from China. "For real? That's disrespectful. We got to talk to Doc. He can't have that." ... The Clippers revealed their Staples Center redecoration during a preseason game Friday, as they plastered giant posters of players Chris Paul, Blake Griffin, DeAndre Jordan, Jamal Crawford, Matt Barnes, Jared Dudley and J.J. Redick over the Lakers' 16 championship banners and 10 retired uniforms. "That's a lot of pull y'all are giving Doc," Young said, somewhat facetiously. "I think he shouldn't come in and have so much pull." (ESPN Los Angeles) Comment
