11 Boise State Broncos
Last Week: 11
Remember Vinny Peretta, the receiver whose touchdown pass set up Ian Johnson's Statue of Liberty play against Oklahoma? The senior threw a 17-yard TD pass against Utah State and then caught a 38-yard TD three minutes later.
Last game: Beat Utah State, 49-14.
Next game: Saturday at Idaho.
12 Oklahoma State Cowboys
Last Week: 8
The problem with falling behind big against Texas Tech was that it prevented the Cowboys from fully utilizing stud RB Kendall Hunter. The sophomore ran for 112 yards Saturday, but only had seven carries in the second half.
Last game: Lost to Texas Tech, 56-20.
Next game: Saturday at Colorado.
13 Missouri Tigers
Last Week: 14
Receiver Jeremy Maclin stole the show on Chase Daniel's Senior Night at Faurot Field. The sophomore caught eight passes for 118 yards and two TDs, ran a 56-yard score on a direct snap and finished with 278 all-purpose yards.
Last game: Beat Kansas State, 41-24.
Next game: Saturday at Iowa State.
14 TCU Horned Frogs
Last Week: 9
A day after his team's heartbreaking loss at Utah, coach Gary Patterson had to debunk a bogus report by a Kansas State fan site that he'd been hired as the Wildcats' coach. "I don't appreciate how this whole thing has been handled," he said.
Last game: Lost to Utah, 13-10.
Next game: Nov. 22 vs. Air Force.
15 North Carolina Tar Heels
Last Week: 20
The Tar Heels' defense did a remarkable job against Georgia Tech's triple-option, holding Jackets RB Jonathan Dwyer largely in check prior to an 85-yard touchdown run with 6:00 left. By then they were already up 21-0.
Last game: Beat Georgia Tech, 28-7.
Next game: Saturday at Maryland.
16 Florida State Seminoles
Last Week: 17
Good news for FSU safety Myron Rolle. ESPN has designated FSU's Nov. 22 game at Maryland for a 7:45 p.m. kickoff, and the NCAA has granted permission for FSU to fly him in from Birmingham, site of his Rhodes Scholarship interview.
Last game: Beat Clemson, 41-27.
Next game: Saturday vs. Boston College.
17 LSU Tigers
Last Week: 16
LSU Tigers (6-3)
It's pretty clear now why Les Miles gave Ryan Perrilloux so many second chances. His replacement at quarterback, redshirt freshman Jarrett Lee, has now thrown 14 interceptions, six of them returned for touchdowns.
Last game: Lost to Alabama, 27-21 (OT).
Next game: Saturday vs. Troy.
18 Ball State Cardinals
Last Week: 19
The competition turned up a notch for the Cardinals last Wednesday, but you never would have known it. QB Nate Davis went 18-of-22 for 300 yards and four TDs as Ball State outgained 5-3 Northern Illinois, 529-275.
Last game: Beat Northern Illinois, 45-14.
Next game: Tuesday at Miami of Ohio.
19 Brigham Young Cougars
Last Week: 18
You can't ask for a tougher end to the regular season than what awaits the Cougars the next two weeks. First they visit 8-2 Air Force, then host 10-0 Utah. Suffice it to say, their 45th-ranked defense will be put to the test.
Last game: Beat San Diego State, 41-12.
Next game: Saturday at Air Force.
20 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets
Last Week: 15
The Jackets' loss to North Carolina makes it almost impossible for them to win the ACC Coastal Division. Three teams now stand a game above them, and even if all three lose once more, Tech's losses have all come within the division.
Last game: Lost to North Carolina, 28-7.
Next game: Nov. 20 vs. Miami.
