21West Virginia Mountaineers
Last Week: 25
It's beginning to feel like old times in Morgantown. The Mountaineers have now won six straight and sit alone atop the Big East following a rousing win at Connecticut in which Pat White produced 230 yards and three TDs.
Last game: Beat Connecticut, 35-13.
Next game: Saturday vs. Cincinnati.
22Maryland Terrapins
Last Week: --
All it took was a bye week for the Terps to finally crack my ballot. They're now the only remaining ACC team with just one conference loss, and that win over Cal only looks better. Now, how they ever lost to Middle Tennessee ...
Last game: Beat N.C. State, 27-24.
Next game: Thursday at Virginia Tech.
23California Golden Bears
Last Week: --
The Bears will carry momentum, albeit little hope, into their date with USC after holding Oregon to 290 total yards in Saturday's rain-drenched win. Pressed into action, oft-maligned QB Nate Longshore played mistake-free.
Last game: Beat Oregon, 26-16.
Next game: Saturday at USC.
24Michigan State Spartans
Last Week: --
These are not the old Spartans, which would have crumbled following their blowout loss to Ohio State. Instead, they beat rival Michigan, then rallied last week from a 24-13 fourth-quarter deficit to beat Wisconsin at the buzzer.
Last game: Beat Wisconsin, 25-24.
Next game: Saturday vs. Purdue.
25Northwestern Wildcats
Last Week: --
After years of fielding porous defenses, the Wildcats continue to shine under coordinator Mike Hankwitz. They shut out Minnesota for the entire second half and won on a 48-yard interception return by safety Brendan Smith.
Last game: Beat Minnesota, 24-17.
Next game: Saturday vs. Ohio State.

Dropped out: Tulsa, Minnesota, USF, Oregon.
