Mets not happy about Dickey's rant

R.A. Dickey brought something slightly less than a cup full of cheer at a recent holiday event when the subject of his contract came up as a topic. "In the context of the market you want what you think is fair," Dickey said at Citi Field, where he helped distribute gifts to school children. ... "There is a surprise sometimes when things don't get done quickly and you think you are already extending the olive branch. But at the same time they have a budget to adhere to, and that is part of it, too." According to a team official, the Mets are "not happy" that Dickey used yesterday's holiday party as a forum for an airing of grievances. The Mets continue to explore trading Dickey, but haven't made headway in convincing potential suitors. (New York Post) Comment

Taylor takes shot at Parcells

Jason Taylor found his way back into the news, courtesy a wide-ranging interview on Tuesday. On coach Joe Philbin, who has gone 5-8 in his uneven first season in Miami: "I think he's doing a good job. It's so tough to tell on these guys early. The problem with the NFL these days, whether it's ownership, fans, players, everybody lacks patience." Taylor seemed to be a buyer of the Dolphins' future, but clearly, some of his wounds from the past still have not healed. He remains "not the biggest Bill Parcells fan," Taylor said of the Dolphins' former football czar who dumped the popular pass-rusher not once, but twice. Taylor blasted Parcells for his "lack of building for the future, and the lack of commitment on his part." (Miami Herald) Comment

LeBron to Barkley: Keep ripping Wade

Not all that far removed from a charming TV ad campaign relationship with Charles Barkley, Dwyane Wade has in him a motivator. Wade claimed after Monday's game he "really didn't listen to the noise" that is mainly coming from Barkley. But Wade's teammates disagree, saying Wade, 30, knows quite well about Barkley's claims that his game is falling off rapidly. "It means Charles Barkley, you shut up," Heat forward LeBron James said about what Wade showed Monday. ... "The man is shooting 80 percent the last couple of games," James said. "Come on. That's crazy. Seriously ... He's unbelievable. I do (want Barkley to keep criticizing Wade). I love it. When someone's not saying stuff about me, I'm glad that somebody finally got off me for a change." (FOX Sports Florida) Comment
