Steelers ready to release Harrison

The clock is ticking. Negotiations between the Steelers and the agent for James Harrison continue, but neither side has found anything to their liking on a new deal, increasing the chances that the star outside linebacker could be released soon. ... [Harrison] has two years left on a contract that is scheduled to pay him a $6.57 million salary this season. Bill Parise, Harrison's agent and a Beaver County resident, declined comment other than to say, "We absolutely want to do this, we absolutely want to be in Pittsburgh." The Steelers want him to take a pay cut, a source familiar with the negotiations said, but the sides cannot agree on just how that would work in a new deal. Harrison also has a salary for 2014 at $7,575,000. (Pittsburgh Post-Gazette) Comment

Orioles scouting three Dodgers starters

Baltimore has found a one-stop shop of sorts. The Orioles have been scouting Los Angels Dodgers pitchers Aaron Harang, Ted Lilly and Chris Capuano, figuring that at least one of them will become available in a trade. The Dodgers' rotation is overflowing and the Orioles haven't closed the door on acquiring another veteran starter, though there's no shortage of arms in their camp. Harang, 34, went 10-10 with a 3.61 ERA in 31 starts last season. He's due to make $7 million this season, and his contract includes a $7 million mutual option in 2014 with a $2 million buyout. The Orioles may not want to commit that much to Harang, which would necessitate the Dodgers absorbing part of that deal. (MASN Sports) Comment

'Dumped' Robinson wants to make ex pay

It isn't often teams move such a high draft pick so quickly, but Sacramento wheeled Thomas Robinson, the No. 5 pick in the 2012 Draft. SLAM: How do you feel about being traded in your rookie year? TR: I don't know ... happy, disrespected. Somewhere between those two. I feel like I got dumped. That's how I feel. Bad breakup. So I'm gonna make my ex hate me the next time they see me. SLAM: What was the first thought in your mind when you learned that you'd be going to the Rockets? TR: One of my closest friends plays here (Marcus Morris) but then he called me and told me he getting traded, too, so I was like, "Who else getting traded?" He told me two power forwards, so I saw opportunity. (Slam Online) Comment
