Matt Stafford

As it turns out, fans in Motown may not have to wait long for a new head coach. The Detroit Lions' head coaching job is Ken Whisenhunt's to lose, sources close to the situation told ESPN. Whisenhunt, the San Diego Chargers' offensive coordinator, and Lions general manager Martin Mayhew spent two seasons as teammates with the Washington Redskins in 1989 and 1990. Those who worked with Whisenhunt in Arizona are convinced that the former Cardinals head coach is going to impress Lions ownership with his presentation. Detroit already knows what Whisenhunt did to revive the careers of quarterbacks Kurt Warner and Philip Rivers. The Lions would want Whisenhunt to have equally successful results with Detroit quarterback Matthew Stafford, who threw 11 interceptions over his last six games this season. (ESPN.com) Comment

It seemed like the move was set in stone, but now we have a confirmation. Shazier officially declared for the NFL Draft and released a statement on his decision. (Fansided.com) Comment

Damon Lillard

Just about a month out from the All-Star Game, Portland point guard Damian Lillard earned an endorsement from none other than Kobe Bryant on Sunday. "I probably won't be able to come back (to the Lakers) soon enough to be able to make my stamp or be able to make my mark on a game," Bryant told reporters before the Lakers faced the Denver Nuggets. "So my advice would be to focus on younger players, the Damian Lillards of the world, because they're more than deserving to be out there and playing that weekend." Bryant, who holds the NBA record for most consecutive All-Star appearances with 15, was the leading vote getter (723,031 votes) among backcourt players from the Western Conference in the most recent returns. Lillard was eighth with 105,880 fan votes. (The Oregonian) Comment
