Welker discipline coming at week's end

In the eyes of Bill Belichick, former Patriot Wes Welker made a deliberate effort to take out Aqib Talib when New England met the Broncos in Sunday's AFC Championship Game. Will the league office agree with the New England Patriots coach? NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Monday that any fine or discipline with regard to Welker's block will come at the end of the week. Game officials viewed the play as a judgment call that contact between Welker and Talib occurred as the ball was being touched by Denver Broncos wide receiver Demaryius Thomas. ... Interestingly, the Patriots ran a nearly identical play late in the first quarter with wide receiver Julian Edelman delivering a hit that shook up Broncos cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. Fans wonder when Pitino's leaving

Twitter isn't always for the faint of heart, and some questions can challenge. "@KyleLeonard11: @AmeliaRayno with more exposure for [Richard Pitino] nationally, do you think he stays here long term? (Nervous MN sports fan, pretty early I know)" ... First of all, I don't think there's necessarily been more national exposure than expected for Pitino so far. But in any case, we're not even through the first season yet. I really don't think the prospect of him LEAVING should be on anyone's mind. You're having fun. You're enjoying the relationship and starting to think about how good it is -- maybe too good, wait, way too good and OH NO HE'S GOING TO LEAVE! Stop it. Enjoy a good thing instead of thinking about the breakup. In general, fans should really not stress about a coach leaving. (Star Tribune) Comment

That night at 6:30, the Ducks and Kings play their NHL Stadium Series game at Dodger Stadium. "Kind of thought about it. ... I don't know what they're going to do if it stays this warm out. It's going to be something different," Ducks center Mathieu Perreault said Monday after the Ducks practiced for Tuesday's home game against the Winnipeg Jets. Game officials have expressed confidence the Dodger Stadium ice quality will be fine as temperatures decrease in the evening. (Los Angeles Times) Comment
