J.W. Harris of May, Texas, did an unplanned somersault over a bull called Even Money at the Calgary Stampede in Alberta. Harris was disqualified for slapping the bull with his free hand during the ride. The previous day Harris, a two-time world champion bullrider, had celebrated his 24th birthday by winning $5,500 with the best performance of the day, an 87-point ride on a bull named Kin Deadly.

Tom Watson waved farewell to the Old Course at St. Andrews while standing on the Swilcan Bridge. Watson, who was competing in the second round of the British Open, kissed one of the bridge stones then hit his second shot to within a foot of the flag and birdied the hole. The 60-year-old golfer, a five-time British Open champion, missed the cut by two strokes. He has four years left on the exemption he earned for finishing second in last year's Open, but the tournament is not scheduled to return to St. Andrews until at least 2015.
