Some folks in Brazil feel their country is going to the dogs as its leaders spend dumpsters of doubloons on the big soccer tournament instead of necessities like schools and hospitals. Things have gotten wiggy in Rio de Janeiro where moltov cocktails are being served along with burning garbage and tear gas as protesters make their sentiments known.

If soccer's not your thing, perhaps you'll get hooked on herring season, which opened in the Netherlands with the traditional auction of the first barrel of Hollandse Nieuwe. The red variety is deceptively tasty.

In Beirut, a Lebanese booster of Brazil's soccer squad displayed his ride, which he thoughtfully decorated for the World Cup. Local drivers now reasonably fear being rear-ended on the road.

In other automotive news, the 25th edition of this grand event was held in the city;s Wedding district, where veiled threats are the norm. The winners rolled on to the Brandenburg State Championships to compete in the Junior, Senior, Elite-XL and Fun classes. The world championships will be held later this year in the good old US of A.

Meanwhile, it's business as usual in the world of baseball where catcher Caleb Joseph caught a pitch from Adam Jones that had some extra custard on it after their team's 4-2 triumph over the Toronto Blue Jays at Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore.
