Sneaker Con 2015 preview: Shoe convention coming to New York City
Perhaps the wildest event of the year for the footwear-inclined descends upon New York City once again, as Sneaker Con 2015 promises another major round of selling, swapping, trading and for some, probably just looking.
The prospect of a sneaker convention might be intimidating to the average fan or potential attendee, but one need not obsess over the X’s and 0’s (which in this case could equal Jordans and Westbrooks) to appreciate the spectacle. The sheer masses of shoe-lovers hawking their wares and parading around the Javits Convention Center on Saturday might be enough.
And amid the milieu, if one comes prepared to spend, odds are they’ll find a suitable pair. Last year there were over 300 vendors selling kicks and over 50,000 pairs on whole in the building. As most sneakerheads might expect, there will be lines, and it might behoove you to arrive early.
Among the notables in attendance: Don C (of Air Jordan 2 fame), Diamond Supply brand director Nick Diamond, sneaker customizers Mache and Kickcasso, and Youtube Celeb Jumpman Bostic. Last, but not least, 2015 National Spelling Bee Champ Gokul Venkatachalam, a big-time sneaker enthusiast, will make an appearance.
The convention bills itself as “The Greatest Sneaker Show on Earth.” You can check it out for yourself on Saturday.
