Speaking with reporters Tuesday, Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant said he was astounded how well ex-teammate Lamar Odom was recovering.

“It puts things into perspective,” Bryant said, reflecting on the situation for the first time publicly. “Sometimes basketball can get in the way of life and get in the way of living. He’s a brother above everything else and it’s important to see him get back on his feet.

“It’s amazing to see him doing well. It truly is remarkable.”

Bryant rushed to the hospital when he heard Odom was found unconscious in a Nevada brothel in mid-October. The two were teammates for seven years, and went to three NBA Finals together.

Odom’s condition has improved since Bryant first saw him; he is now able to speak and breathe on his own. He remains in treatment.
