Cavs announce coaching changes
Larry Drew has been promoted to associate head coach under Tyronn Lue and the Cavaliers have officially named Nate Reinking coach of the Canton Charge.
Along with the promotions of Drew and Reinking, the Cavs formally announced ex-NBA guard Damon Jones as a member of the coaching staff.
The Cavs made the moves official Tuesday on the opening day of training camp.
Reinking is a Kent State product and was an assistant under Jordi Fernandez with the Charge last season. (Fernandez is now assistant with the Denver Nuggets.)
"Nate rose to the top of the list based on the phenomenal job he’s done for us the last three years,” said Charge general manager Mike Gansey.
Holdovers Jim Boylan, Mike Longabardi and James Posey return to Lue's staff, as does Phil Handy, the director of player development/assistant coach, and Vitaly Potapenko, the assistant director of player development.
Meanwhile, the Cavs promoted Mike Gerrity to director of player development with the Charge. He will also serve as player development assistant with the Cavs.
Former NBA big man Melvin Ely and Sam Jones have been hired as Reinking's assistants in Canton.
