Mavs' Carlisle on Smith trade rumors: 'We’ve got two point guards out there'

Despite rumors to the contrary, Dennis Smith Jr. is doing just fine playing alongside Luka Doncic.

So says Dallas Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle, who amidst reports Smith, a second-year guard, would be traded for not playing effectively next to Doncic, the Mavs' rookie sensation, in the same backcourt.

Per Dwain Price of Mavs.com:

“We have two point guards out there. Let’s quit looking at it as Dennis is getting relegated to playing off the ball,” Carlisle said. “We’ve got two point guards out there, which is a great advantage, and we’ve just got to take advantage of that and create a balance and cause problems for teams.”

Reports surfaced earlier this week about the possibility of Dallas moving Smith Jr.
