Hammond leaves Bucks for Magic GM post
The Orlando Magic have hired John Hammond as their new general manager, the team announced Tuesday.
Hammond's deal with the Magic is for five years, The Vertical reported.
Hammond has been GM of the Milwaukee Bucks since 2008. He will join former Bucks executive Jeff Weltman, who worked under Hammond in Milwaukee but will now be Hammond's boss in Orlando -- as Weltman was officially hired as the Magic's president of basketball operations Tuesday.
The movement in the Magic's front office brings an end to the speculation that Cleveland Cavaliers GM David Griffin might have an interest in the position. Griffin is operating on the final year of his contract, but as Amico Hoops reported last week, the Cavs have every intention of keeping him.
The Bucks may promote front office executive Justin Zanak to GM, The Vertical reported.
