West leaving Warriors to join Clippers

Special consultant to the Golden State Warriors and NBA legend Jerry West is leaving for a similar position with the Los Angeles Clippers, according to a Sports Illustrated report.

West spent the previous six years with the Warriors.

Per Sports Illustrated:

Known as the architect of two Laker championship teams as a general manager (Showtime in the decade of the 80s and the Kobe-Shaq threepeaters at the beginning of the century), West was not in a decision-making capacity with the Warriors. But he was a respected voice on personnel matters as Golden State turned from a laughingstock to a model franchise.

West, 79, made the decision to join the Clippers over the last couple of weeks, according to SI.

The Clippers sure could use some positive vibes, as they begin a summer in which starters Blake Griffin, Chris Paul and JJ Redick become free agents.

ESPN reported recently that the San Antonio Spurs plan to explore the possibility of acquiring Paul. The Charlotte Hornets are another team that is strongly interested, Amico Hoops has learned.
