Lakers trade Russell, Mozgov to Nets for Lopez, No. 27 pick

The Los Angeles Lakers have traded point guard D'Angelo Russell and center Timofey Mozgov to the Brooklyn Nets for big man Brook Lopez and the 27th overall pick in this year's draft.

By doing this trade, the Lakers shed the $54 million that was left on Mozgov's contract. Lopez is owed $22.6 million next season but his contract expires after one year. It's clear that LA is beginning to clear cap space for their grand long-term plans.

Russell, meanwhile, will now be the franchise point guard for the Nets moving forward.
